Virender Singh won Gold Medal in 2013 Deaflympics

Indian Wresteler Virender Singh won Gold medal won gold medal at the 74KG freestyle wrestling category in Deaflympics 2013 . Virender Singh who is native of Delhi prepared well for the tournament , infact he got trained along with olympic medalists Yogeshwar dutt and Shushil Kumar before the tournament.

This was the third consecutive medal at the event for Virender Singh. Virender Singh won a gold in 2005 edition of the Deaflympics, followed by a bronze in 2009. In between he added a silver at the 2008 World Deaf Wrestling Championships. He is Popularly known as Goonga Pehelwan or the mute wrestler in Hindi, Virender Singh won India’s first and only gold medal at the 2005 Deaflympics in Melbourne, Australia and added a silver medal at the World Deaf Wrestling Championships, 2008 in Yerevan, Armenia.

This was his third straight medal at the special Olympics. Virender Singh whose age is currently 28 is also  employed by the Haryana Power Corporation.
