Arvind Kejriwal Released from Tihar Jail. Arvind Kejriwal, the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party who has been in Delhi's Tihar jail for the last six days, was released from jail on Tuesday.

Kejriwal Released from Tihar Jail:

Earlier on Tuesday, Kejriwal agreed to furnish personal bond to get bail in the criminal defamation complaint filed against him by BJP leader Nitin Gadkari.

The former Delhi chief minister, who has been lodged in Tihar jail, accepted to do so on the suggestion of Delhi high court earlier.

At the same time, the Delhi high court allowed him to pursue his challenge against the order of a lower court that sent him to jail on 21st May for refusing to furnish bail.

"Everything can't be an exception for this man," the bench remarked.

Kejriwal Monday moved a habeas corpus petition for his immediate release, saying he has been "illegally" sent to judicial custody on a "completely wrong premise of law" by the court's orders of May 21st and May 23rd. He challenged a trial court order sending him to judicial custody.

"Kejriwal has been illegally sent to judicial custody till June 6th for refusing to furnish the bail bond in a summon case on a private complaint even though it was not mandatory and he was ready to give a written undertaking," said the plea.
