Asian Cricket Council(ACC) has finalized the venue of Asia cup 2014 in a meeting held in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on Jan 4th. Bangladesh is going to host this year's Asia cup from February 25th to March 8th, which is the second time in a row for Bangladesh. Whereas Afghanistan is the new inclusion into this year's tournament. This is the first time that Afghanistan is participating in the Asia cup.
According to sources, there was a suspicion in Bangladesh hosting the Asia cup due to the political disturbances as well as security issues earlier in Dhaka. Regarding this year's tournament, Sri Lanka showed much interest in hosting the series if in case Bangladesh failed to clear security issues. But however, Bangladesh was determined in hosting the tournament and retained the hosting rights.
Bangladesh Cricket Board’s(BCB) acting CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury said. “We have given a very good presentation to the ACC board members, and they have been convinced that we can host the tournament.
There will be a total of 5 teams participating in this year's edition which includes Pakistan, Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. With the inclusion of an extra team (Afghanistan) the total number of matches has been increased to 11.
