No matter how harsh or unkind the world sees you, there will always come a situation or time where you can give it back to the society. In the same way, Kerala floods gave a chance to a college girl that she could prove what she is and what she can do to the people.
Hanan Hanai, a student who was recently trolled on social media for selling fish after college hours, has contributed Rs 1.5 lakh to Kerala Chief Minister's Disaster Relief Fund (CMDRF). Hanan stressed the fact that the money she had received in her account as support has been given to help those in distress.
“I visited a relief camp in Kothamangalam where people were struggling to have basic necessities like food and clothes. Seeing their struggle I wanted to help them in some way. When I was at facing difficulties in my life, a lot of people generously helped me. I had received some Rs 1.5 lakhs from you people. Now I want to transfer that money to the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund,” Hanan Hanai said in a video.
Hanan had become an internet sensation after her story about funding her education and supporting her family by selling fish alongside attending classes went viral. But she was soon trolled after a section of social media users expressed doubts about her struggles and claimed it was "fake". At that time, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan stood firmly on Hamid's side. He had said he was proud of her and had asked the police to take action against people behind the abusive propaganda.
Hanan said, “I am merely giving back what I received from the people. Now they are all suffering and it is the least I can do. On the second day of trolling, I started receiving money in 500s and 2000s into my account. This added up to Rs. 1.5 lakh. Now the people who helped me are facing huge losses and I want to give back their money,” she added.
Besides Hanan, people from various walks of life are generously contributing money and various essentials for helping the needy. Relief and rescue operations are on war-footing across the state as many people are still stranded in many places.
