Giving your life for the country is the biggest sacrifice and there is no replacement for it. The soldiers feel proud to serve and die for their country. In the same way, Major Kaustubh Rane showed an unmatched show of courage, stubbornness, and love for the profession during the call of duty.
Kaustubh Rane, a Mira Road resident was among the four Indian Army soldiers who were killed in an encounter on the Line of Control (LOC) in north Kashmir's Gurez sector of Bandipora district, on Tuesday. He had been promoted to a Major in January. Rane was the only child of Prakash Rane and Jyoti Rane and is survived by wife Kanika, sister Kashyapi, 2-year-old son Agastya.
The news of the death of their son reached to the family in the wee hours when they were planning to head to their native town in Konkan. Their neighbors said that the parents, both retired and took pride in the fact that their son was a soldier. Kaustubh too was keen on joining the army for a very long time. He had completed six years in the job. Kaustubh had visited his home in January this year and that was their last meeting.
The firing broke out at around 1 am when a group of armed terrorists tried to get into the Indian territory. The alerted soldiers foiled the infiltration bid by the group from the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK). However, before dying, the gunshot wounded Kaustubh killed two terrorists.
Along with Major Kaustubh Prakash Kumar Rane, Hawaldar Vikram Jeet, rifleman Mandeep Singh, and Hameer Singh were other soldiers who are killed during a fierce gunfight with militants. Had it not been great army officers, this nation wouldn’t have survived all the calamities. It’s because of them, our country is maintaining its status quo loud and proud.
