After a series of movies that didn't go well with both Rajinikanth and Director Shankar, the latter's sequel to the 2010's blockbuster Robo has finally taken the movie buffs by storm. 2.0 opened to mostly positive reviews on Thursday. The sequel to 2010 blockbuster Enthiran has Rajinikanth reprising his roles of doctor Vaseegaran and Chitti, the robot.
As expected most of the audience preferred watching the movie in 3D. With shows starting as early as 4 AM in several centers, the film is garnering a good response despite having a mid-week release. Outside and inside the cinema halls, Rajinikanth fans did everything to prove their love for the demi-God of Indian cinema. And needless to say, the effect was its massive opening.
The official 2.0 handle had tweeted, “It’s an Overwhelming Response for #2Point0. Thanks all for your Unconditional Love. Experience the Grand Epic in 3D. @rajinikanth @akshaykumar @iamAmyJackson @shankarshanmugh @arrahman @resulp @srinivas_mohan @LycaProductions @DharmaMovies @LycamobileUK @divomovies”

He continued, “In #Chennai city, #2Point0 takes All-time No.1 Opening for Day 1 – ₹ 2.64 Crs. It has beaten #Sarkar ‘s ₹ 2.37 Crs set on #Diwali day.”
Ramesh also revealed, “At the #Karnataka Box office, #2Point0 has grossed an early estimate of 8.25 Crs for Day .. Actuals may be higher..A non-festival weekday opening.”
Trade analyst Girish Johar had told us, “The Hindi version of the film is expected to earn something between Rs 20-25 crore on the day of its release. If we consider all languages (Tamil and Telugu), the Rajinikanth starrer will touch Rs 100 crore (gross) mark on day one.”
In general, 2.0 is called the “spiritual successor” of Enthiran and also stars Amy Jackson. It has music by maestro AR Rahman and has been bankrolled by Lyca Productions.
The music is composed by A.R.Rahman. Lyricists varied with languages. Most of the shooting was done in India, unlike a few important scenes which were shot elsewhere. The movie is co-written and directed by S Shankar.
Fans are taking to Twitter and Instagram in expressing their excitement about the movie. The credit rolls or the title scenes as in the movie's introduction itself entertains us in 3D. Not just a normal 3D Movie but it took us to a different realm altogether.
However, coming to the aspects of box office collections, so far the movie has raked in at least Rs 130 crores as per the sources on Twitter. Rs 80 Crores is expected from both Tamil and Telugu Industry and Rs 20- 25 Crores from North with 30 percent occupancy rate, and around Rs 20 Crores from abroad, the movie's one-day collections are around Rs 120-125 Crores or is estimated to be more than that.
Earlier, Baahubali 2 collected Rs 122 Crores in one day breaking all the existing records. Well, Robo 2.0 might be the new high. It can be anything.
