In the Modern day society, social media platform WhatsApp has already earned enough attention and is currently the most used communication platform in World. Communities, like minded people, activists, and students, everybody is now a part of some WhatsApp group and we can't deny the fact about how much unnecessary and beyond the lines stuff is running in between people on the Internet.
However, something unusual happened in Mumbai's Matunga. The administrator of a WhatsApp group was arrested by the police after he ‘accidentally’ added a woman to the group that shared adult content which includes links and other stuff. This is first reported by The Times of India on Tuesday, 27 November.
During the investigation process, cops found out that the complainant’s number was added to the WhatsApp group which runs in the name of Triple XXX, and it has happened in September, which she initially thought was a prank by her friends. But after discovering that the group shared pornographic material, the complainant, who’s a housewife, lodged a complaint at the Matunga police station.
Post the search, the accused, Mustaq Ali Shaikh (24), who works as a carpenter and is from West Bengal, was arrested by the police on 22 November under various sections of IPC for outraging the modesty of a woman and 67 & 67-A of the IT Act.
Sources from TOI further revealed that the complaint lodged by the woman stated that the group comprised of 12 members. Speaking to the national daily, investigating officer, Maruti Shelke said that Shaikh was arrested from Sion-Dharavi area in Mumbai after tracing his mobile number.
The same officer further added that the accused had confirmed that the woman was ‘accidentally’ added to the group. However, Shaikh, in his defense said that the group was only created for ‘personal use.’ Meanwhile, the police have confiscated Shaikh’s phone and have sent it to the Forensic Science Laboratory to retrieve its data. They are also awaiting a detailed report on other members of the the WhatsApp group.
