A cableway is not what we usually see in India. Having to travel over huge mountains, roads and stairs are what we usually see. Especially while going on a pilgrimage, in Northern India, where there are temples and shrines constructed on huge mountains, walking is a huge task. The Vaishno Devi Temple, located in the State of Jammu & Kashmir, is on the Trikuta mountains. Ponies, electric vehicles, walks, palki, and even Helicopter rides are available.
Adding to the other means of transportation to the mountain-top Durga Mata Temple, a new Ropeway has now opened. The Governor of the J&K State, Satya Pal Malik inaugurated the high-tech ropeway project, at the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine. Now the pilgrims can visit with extreme ease.
As the temple invites many worshippers of all ages, this ropeway would now be more beneficial to the older category. The elderly can now pay their obeisance at the Bhairon Ji Temple without having to climb up the most sleep slope of 6600ft.
The Governor who is also the Chairman of the Shrine Board, in a new fashion, electronically inaugurated the Multi-crore Bhawan-Bhairon passenger ropeway. The project cost around Rs 85 Crore. It has a carrying capacity of 800 persons per hour. An hour trip to the temple is now cut short to just around 3 minutes.
According to the statement given to the media, "The Board has decided to charge a highly subsidised to and fo ticket of Rs 100 per passenger to enable the maximum number of pilgrims to avail of this facility. The Bhawan-Bhairon Passenger Ropeway Project has been executed by a consortium of a Swiss company and a company from Kolkata".
"The electromechanical components and cabins of the ropeway have been imported from Switzerland. The Passenger Ropeway System has been fully equipped with all safety norms as per relevant standards and code". The passengers can now look forward to reaching the temple very soon. But there still are long queues to be transported.
