All India Institutes Of Medical Sciences is a group of medical colleges which are autonomous and public. They are of high stature in the list of top medical colleges in India. So far they have 9 branches all over India, with two newly opened in Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra. On requests from the states, the Cabinet has approved for two more establishments in TamilNadu and Telangana.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), these two new are aimed to be created. New establishments in Madurai area of TamilNadu and Bibinagar Of Telangana are hoped to help in enhancing health care. Special focus is set on tertiary or advanced healthcare systems and treatments in these regions.
The construction of the Madurai branch would cost Rs 1,264 Crore and of the Bibinagar Branch, it would be Rs 1,028 Crore. The cabinet has set a timeframe of 45 months within which the two must be constructed. The inclusion of the pre-construction phase of 10 months, followed by an active construction phase of 32 months ending it up with a 3-month commisioning phase.
Cabinet has not only made the approval but also fully funding the construction of the two. The costs are born by the Central Government. The institution not only has a college and academic facility but has an in-bed hospital facility. The new ones are intended to have a capacity of 750 beds including beds for various casualties. They are for Emergency or Trauma, AYUSH, Private, ICU and for other Super Specialities.
The whole institute is composed of a Medical college, AYUSH Block, Auditorium, Night Shelters, Guest Houses, Hostels and Residential Facilities also. Capable of handling around 1,500 out-patients a day, creating a huge source of medical facilities with employment of Doctors, health workers etc.
A 100 Undergraduates of MBBS, 60 of B.Sc. (Nursing) and about 20 Postgraduation Specialisation seats to be added to the count. All of this construction will be broadly made under the same pattern its very first AIIMS, Delhi is created.
