Madhya Pradesh held elections on 29th November, Thursday, to elect members of the 230 constituencies in the state when Indian National Congress and Bhartiya Janta Party were the two most expected winners. Congress blames Election Commission of India for their unbefitting conduct and claims EVM tampering in the elections, targeting BJP at first hand.
Voting Machines were protected by strong securities and strongrooms were locked in the presence of trusted candidates as well. But EVM admitted there occurred a blackout in the strongrooms on 30th November for almost an hour following a power cut in the area.
Reportedly, due to the power cut, CCTV cameras and LED display installed to keep a watch on the rooms didn’t function from 8:19 am to 9:15 am, and so there happened no recording for almost an hour.
The sudden power cut and blackout raises concerns of EVM tampering and Congress targets BJP at first hand. AAP candidates too camped outside the old jail for a night. Following the outrage, an additional LED display, an inverter, and a generator have been installed to keep on with the further conducts.
ECI has confirmed that the cameras are good and functioning duly now. DIG Dharmendra Chaudhary has assured that the EVMs are given a three-layer security cover and no one can enter the area without signing at the gate, and allowed the candidates of the contesting parties to keep a watch on the security of the strongrooms. Congress’s president of Madhya Pradesh has directed his party candidates to oversee the EVMs till the results are declared, i.e. 11th December. Congress and Aam Aadmi Party have joined hands to make sure the supervision of the strongrooms in shifts.
A complaint has been registered by Congress regarding the concern in High Court, and on Thursday will be its first hearing.
