The newly formed Congress Governments in the three states of Rajasthan, Chattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh have burdened the exchequer. This stress comes after they have declared farmer loan waivers extensively. Following which there was a temporary relief to the distressed farmers, but the issues of farmers have not seen a complete relief. Even after the loan waiver, there were deaths seen due to unforeseen issues.
A new trend has started among the farmers of Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh. Avoiding the huge costs of the fertilisers and yield enhancement measures, the naive uninformed and unaware farmers are using Alcohol. Labelling the alcohol they use to be effective in a 'Medicinal' Way, this is being used.
Farmers cultivating the Potato crop are using this in the fertiliser and pesticide sprayers. On knowing about this new upcoming trend, the agriculturists have expressed an amused shock. Some even looked through the sources and related books to know the validation behind the use.
On further study, there seems no scientific evidence and proof that using Alcohol and spirits would enhance the crop yield. Botanists have emerged and were seen giving insights on the use of spirits. They have confirmed that this use is not beneficial to the yield and urged the farmers to abstain from continuing this process.
Agricultural Authority of Uttar Pradesh was contacted in this regard and an official has said this, " There's no scientific reason behind the use of alcohol as medicine for plants. I appeal to farmers to use the right medicines. Farmers experiment with it (alcohol) to boost crop production, which is wrong".
Back in the year 2010, there was a similar trend followed by farmers. They have used native as well as Indian made foreign liquor to enhance the production of Brinjal Crop. Which they give credit for high yield and better quality vegetable due to many flowers emerging.
Horticulturists and Botanists have then too struck off the incident by saying that it was a myth, as Alcohol evaporates and might have only cleaned up the soil, but not affect the fruit of the plant.
