Our Indian culture and tradition annoints us to treat our guests with utmost respect. Known for our hospitality we are liked by many foreign nationals who come here for a refreshing climate and experience. It is our responsibility to make them feel at home while they are made to enjoy our tourist places and typical Indian lives. One Canadian duo who visited India a month ago did not witness a happy Indian sight.
The woman foreign national was molested at a home of a host who invited them over to his house after befriending them at a pub. The two friends were travelling and were staying at a hostel in Bandra West, Mumbai. The women and her male friend met the accused in a pub in Bandra, where he befriended her.
After having a nice conversation and a good time with the Canadian duo, he then inquired about their whereabouts. He later invited them to his house in Bangur Nagar to stay overnight. The duo agreed to do so, considering him as a friendly host for the night.
It is at his house where the woman was molested by the host. She immediately alerted her friend who was in the same house, but another room. They both went to a nearby Police Station and filed a complaint.
According to her statement, the police officer reiterates, " The accused met the woman and her friend at a pub in Bandra. They were living in a hostel in Bandra (West) and are tourists in the city. After befriending the duo, Amar invited them to his house in Bangur Nagar to spend some more time together. They accepted the invitation and accompanied him from Bandra to his house. They left Bandra at 1 am. They met a friend of Amardeep, Sahib Singh, 40, at the flat in Bangur Nagar".
The next morning the duo went to the nearby Goregaon Police Station where they were redirected to Bangur Nagar PS, accompanied by a woman constable who noted down the statement from the woman. " The woman went to one of the rooms to sleep. When the woman was sleeping, she realized that someone was touching her inappropriately", was her description of the incident.
Bangur Nagar police on the same day arrested that man and his friend for allegedly molesting a 24-year-old Canadian woman at his house, after befriending her and a friend at a pub. The Police then registered a case under the Section 354 (punishment for molestation) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and they charged Chaudhary and Singh with molestation.
