We the students of India have always faced with situations where we are punished at school. Standing on the bench, kneeling down on the ground, got beaten on the knuckles, made to sit under the sun and what not. Now that we are remembering these days, they are a heartfully laughed moments. But, when these punishments go beyond limits and lead to grievous injuries, then the teachers are liable for punishment.
A principal of a secondary school in Shahjahanpur's Uttar Pradesh had crossed limits in handling the students. He had severely beat up the students for not greeting him, 'As-Salaam-Alaikum'. Chand Mian, the Principal was found guilty of beating up the students and he is suspended. Further Inquiry is going on.
The issue came to light when The Principal Secretary and Nodal Officer of the District, Dimple Verma went on a visit to the Bilhari Secondary School in Shahjahanpur's Tilhar area, on Sunday. It was then when he was told by the students as well as other officials about the incidents.
The allegations from Prima Facie were that he would beat students who greeted him, 'Good Morning' instead of 'As-Salaam-Alaikum'. The Arabic term translates to, 'Let Peace Be Upon You', a religious salutation among the Muslims. The act the Principal is alleged to have committed is quite on the contrary to his demand for peace upon him.
Accompanied by the officials was a Class Six student who also said the same thing about the Principal beating them up for being able to greet in Arabic. He even showed injury marks which were on his neck, to the officials, as said by Chief Development Officer, Prerna Sharma.
On knowing about this directly from the student, the kid was first sent to a nearby hospital for check-ups and treatment. Later an inquiry was set up to get details of similar incidents from others. To all these allegations, the Principal replies by denial these actions, saying there is a conspiracy spiralling around him.
According to the Right To Education Act of 2009, as mentioned in its Section 17, resorting to mental or physical abuse, is infringing of Child rights and is a crime and a punishable offence. The severity of the act reflects upon the severity the victim was made to suffer.
