Obesity is the one that runs when we do not run for exercise. Changes in the diet and lack of physical activity both in the Developed and the Developing nations has resulted in Childhood Obesity as well. China tops the list with the most number of Obese children. India is at the second position with 14.4 million obese children.

In a serious attempt to curb the physical health issue, the West Bengal Government has come up with awareness programs. West Bengal Education Department has now decided to inculcate this into the syllabus.

The daily curriculum of a student in India, and especially in the state of West Bengal is now bound to see significant changes. The importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle is to be well taught to the students, in order to address this rampant underlying health issue.

According to a senior official of the WB Education Dept, the whole course covers all the sections of students. Starting with the primary level, for which funds have already been disbursed. To engage most of the students in understanding and getting educated on this issue, Theoretical Knowledge is combined meticulously with Practical Application.

All these will be examined in the curriculum to raise the awareness level of the students, which will eventually help their parents know about the basic things about obesity".

Medical equipment like stethoscope and sphygmomanometer (for BP) are brought in, and the teachers will be trained by Physicians in handling the equipment. Benefits of having a healthy lifestyle are trying to be inculcated.
