While the mainstream cinema in India which likes to show the protagonist the 'heroic' light and like him to do illogical but 'macho' stunts, 2018 was a year that promoted off-beat cinema on a quite big level. While big-budgeted films like Zero, Thugs Of Hindustan, and Race 3 starring the Khans of Bollywood failed miserably on the box office stats, critically acclaimed movies like Badhaai Ho, Andhadhun, and Tumbbad was received quite warmly by the Indian audience. With films like these what else is being appreciated is the actors contributing to the new age cinema. Manoj Bajpayee who is claimed to be one of the favourite actors of critics received Padma Shri recently which is quite a big deal. But what he said sure attracted controversies.
"My family and my parents are celebrating this special moment with the villagers, visiting temples and distributing laddoos and for my friends, I will organise a party soon," the actor said on receiving the award. "There have been quite a few instances in the recent past when people have criticised the government's choice on social media when it comes to conferring Padma awards to a particular individual," Manoj said while claiming that he's glad that he is not being abused by the public for not deserving the same.
"I have observed that till now, no one has abused me on social media and no controversy has been created when my name was announced. So, I think it is a good thing that when you get an honour nobody has raised objections against it," he concluded.
The actor also claimed that he has not met the Prime Minister in person yet, and appealed that he wishes to gift him chew gum. "I have a lot of respect for PM Narendra Modi as he works hard day and night and doesn't sleep more than 4 hours. So I am thinking of gifting him chewing gum as he will chew that and will take rest and take care of his health," he said.
