World Economic Forum an international organisation for Public-private Partnership every year has a meeting at the end of the month of January. Nicknamed as 'Davos' these meetings are held to discuss and solve the partnership between the companies and the governments. With an aim of engaging the World in various business, political and academic agendas, the Davos will be held. Davos 2019 is with a theme of 'Globalisation 4.0'. Many sectors are involved here, and now we talk about Airtel Vs Reliance Jio.
Looking at the Telecom industry statistics of the year 2018, they show a steady decline and a bad performance in their revenue generation. Billionaire business tycoon of Bharti Airtel at the Davos 2019 in Switzerland says that this downfall and this 'internal bleeding will be no more'.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Mr Mittal was reported saying, " I would say given the lay of the land, 2019 should be a year of stopping the dreadful decline. Will it be a year of recovery? Possibly not. This is a year where you have to invest more, get out more into the market for 4G, compete in the new marketplace, hold on to the market share, hold on to your better customer".
Mr Mittal does not show any hope of recovery from this damage. In his words, the monopoly that Reliance Jio enjoys is the one that would dictate the recovery of other competitors in the market. " Eventually, one player is playing a low-tariff, high subsidy game. It has to be his call".
The Airtel chairman boldly says, "This will be the year perhaps the Haemorrhaging stopping". Ever since the Ambani's Jio entered into the telecom market, with their minimum pack at Rs 50, they are inverting the growth table. Others have to start bidding form the lowest to beat these rates.
When asked about the scope for recovery in the year of 2019, Mr Mittal had this to say, " What you need to focus in 2019 is to hold your market share-both revenue and customer market shares-if that's in place and cost structure well taken care of, I think you will be okay".
