The Tiny Pacific Island Nation of 'Niue' is now devoid of its celebrity duck. The duck is named Trevor by the people who visit the nation to see the duck. People made him a local celebrity. He is now all over the news as he now no more with us. He is famous for being all alone. Tale of loneliness died with him. It was last year that he became the most famous.
According to a local social media page specially dedicated to Trevor, the loneliest duck has revealed the news. They themselves found him dead in the bushes after he was attacked by dogs. This species of duck came here to this specific island most probably due to a storm.
Trevor had literally been 'blown away' to this island nation. Since then he resides at a small puddle. He rose to a global prominence followed by an article written by the New Zealand Herald. It is this article which was all about him and they have chronicled his life at the puddle with the absence of wetlands or ponds in Niue.
The newspaper has thus named him after New Zealand's Parliamentary speaker Trevor Mallard. This duck Trevor even shares his last name. Talking about the sad death of the duck the speaker wrote on his social media page, "Deepest sympathy to the people of Niue from the Parliament of New Zealand".
Niue's Chamber of Commerce Chief, Ray Findlay speaks to another news channel and condoles Trevor's death. "He captured many hearts and even the rooster, the chicken and the weka were looking a little forlorn today wandering around near the dry puddle".
The tiny island nation named Niue has a small population of about 1,600 people only. Due to its presence in the vast ocean with very less natural habitats for such ducks, this island nation is nicknamed as, 'Rock of the Pacific'.
