Hindu mythology has always been one of the most fascinating subjects to talk about. And, when it comes to the marriages of Hindu gods and goddesses, one cannot stop scratching their heads with all the possible complications. Now, we are going to tell you the story of the marriage of goddess Saraswati to Lord Brahma, which took people by shock. All the information is taken from Saraswati Purana where the story is carefully explained. The epic read that Brahma created his beautiful daughter Saraswati direct from his vital strength or seminal fluid. Some texts also prove that Brahma used to collect his semen in a pot fixing his eyes on the celestial beauty Urvasi. Brahma’s semen in the pot gave birth to Saraswati. Thus, Saraswati had no mother.
This daughter of Brahma is the Hindu goddess of learning. When Brahma saw the beauty of Saraswati he became amorous. To escape from her father’s passionate approach Saraswati ran to the lands in all four directions, but she could not escape from her father. She finally succumbed to Brahma’s wish.
Brahma and his daughter Saraswati lived as husband and wife indulging in incest for 100 years. They had a son Swayambhumaru. Swayambhumaru made love with his sister Satarpa. Through the incest of Brahma’s son and daughter, Brahma got two grandsons and two grand-daughters.
However, As per Matsy Purana, there was a time when Lord Brahma was only alone when the cosmos did not exist. He longed for company. Accordingly he decided to split himself in to two parts, creating a feminine counterpart. As mythology mentioned her in the name of Sandhya, Brahmi or Saraswati who emerged from Brahma’s mouth.
Brahma was attracted and fell in love with her. His longing for her increased and he started looking at her constantly. To avoid his gaze, Saraswati started moving from one side to another even flied on top but Brahma started looking towards her without turning his head, but creating heads all around, a total of five heads. Brahma finally requested her to help him to create the Universe.
Saraswati as his wife helped Brahma to execute his plan accordingly and created the demigod Manu, who ultimately created the world. She is the mother of our language, Sanskrit as well as mother of the Vedas, texts of Hinduism. Prajapati (Brahma) desired his daughter (SARASWATI) and made love to her. This was a sin in the eyes of the gods, who said to the god who rules over beasts [Pasupati, Rudra], ‘He commits a sin, acting in this way towards his own daughter, our sister. Pierce him.’
Rudra took aim and pierced him. Half his seed fell to the ground. The gods cured Prajapati and cut out Rudra’s dart, for Prajapati is the sacrifice. To utilize [the seed], the gods said, ‘Take care that this may not be lost, but that it may be less than the oblation.’ They gave it to Bhaga to eat, but it burnt his eyes and he became blind.
Then they gave it to Pusan to eat, but it knocked out his teeth. At last they gave it to Savitr [the sun] and it did not injure him, for he appeased it. Saraswati is known and worshiped as goddess of knowledge. She is the creator of all creative arts, poetry, music and science. Saraswati appeared as a divine river, water deity, as mentioned in Rigveda.
Thus she is known as goddess of fertility and purification. Word Saraswati means, one which flows, not only water of river, flow of knowledge is also indicative.
Saraswati is the wife of brahma. Brahma is the creator of everything thats why some people think saraswati is his daughter. but this is not true biologically.
Basics:
Manifestations, Avataras of her
Mahakali, Kali/Kalika
Parvati
Lakshmi
Vidhya
Gayatri
Savitri
Her Birth and Marriage:
So I did my online "research" on this but only find very diverse information from all the sources...
Some claim:
▶"she was been created by the Brahma so both are not biologically blood-related."
▶"Brahma is the creator of everything that's why some people think Saraswati is his daughter, actually, Saraswati is the daughter of Vishnu."
But what so far I've understood, is that Swaraswati was not happy with this relationship, so she cursed him:
"Brahma desired Sarasvati and went to her, asking her to stay with him. she furious at this and said, 'Your mouth speaks inauspiciously and so you will always speak in a contrary way.' From that day, Brahma's fifth head always spoke evilly and coarsely. Therefore one day when Siva was wandering about with Parvati and came to see Brahma, Brahma's four heads praised Siva but the fifth made an evil sound. Siva, displeased with the fifth head, cut it off. The skull remained stuck fast to Siva's hand, and though he was capable of burning it up, Siva wandered the earth with it for the sake of all people, until he came to Benares."
-- Siva Purana, Jnanasamhita 49:65-80
Also according to another legend, when Lord Brahma became overpowered by the ethereal beauty of Saraswati, she changed her forms to escape from Brahma's sexual overtures. But He did not give up. Finally, unable to control Her anger, the Goddess cursed Brahma that He would not be worshipped by any being on Earth. Hence, Brahma is not worshipped in Hinduism in spite of being the Creator. Brahma's lust signifies the fall of humanity.
