India is a homeland for a population of billion and above. We produce our wastage accordingly to our people numbers. India is on the verge of becoming the most garbage producing nation by 2047 says an estimate by Energy and Resources Institute. The founder of a non-governmental organisation named Centre for Science and Environment has ever boldly said this about Indian garbage production. "We are drowning in our own excreta".
Despite developed countries producing much more waste than us developing countries, our toxicity is lethal to us. Bio-degradable waste is at its bare minimum. Dumping yards in India have been increasing at a greater rate. And the plethora of places to dump waste is unlimited.
If at all in a flow of the movement we dump the waste anywhere where it is not supposed to, we will be clicked, posted, red marked and shamed openly. Civic authorities of the city of Kochi came up with this new mobile application which ensures people behave themselves and not dump on the streets.
A Thiruvananthapuram-based start-up has come up with this new mobile application which is available for free on Google Play. The public can download this app and post pictures of offenders. Approved by the Health Standing Committee, the usage of the app will be put forth at the Corporation Council for further discussion.
Not only does the mobile application help perpetrators to be punished, but also it gives the users the required information about waste collection centres and their schedules. The date and time when Bio-degradable waste is being collected will be specifically notified and mentioned in the app.
Any dump on the roads or commuter places, if its photo is uploaded, the health committee will receive the alerts. They will then do a follow-up on the issue, rectify and if possible, in special cases identify the perpetrator and fine them duly. And the uploader will be given the feedback of the progress happening..
