National Flag of India, the Tricoloured Ashok Chakra laded pride of the nation deserves all our respect. But is it mandatory to salute our national flag every time and everywhere we see it? Is it compulsory for civilians to stand up and salute to the flag no matter the time and place? A recent incident where Cabinet Minister of Chhattisgarh, Mr Mohammad Akbar was all stuck in this whirl on twitter.
A video has surfaced online that has shown the minister not saluting the National flag after it was hoisted. He did not salute it during the National Anthem too. Citizens and Netizens are furious on this person's actions. The video has gone viral on the internet, attracting many tweets and retweets.
The people behind the computers posting the comments that the minister is being 'anti-national' for not respecting the flag. They have trolled and have resorted to verbal abuse of the man all over the Twitter handle. Posted by this man named, Sameer Maheswari who had also captioned the video like this.

" Yeh Hai, Chhattisgarh Congress ke Mantri Mohammad Akbar Ji jinhone tirange ko salami Dena bhi uchit Nahin samjha". Which translates to, "This is Chhattisgarh Congress minister Mohammad Akbarji who didn't find it improper to not salute the tricolour". The 1.14-minute long video was extracted from another news website.
Dainik Bhaskar and India Today have covered the event and the former demanded an apology while the latter caught hold of the whole ceremonial video. In that video, the Minister was indeed not seen to have been saluting the flag all through the National Anthem.
So a look into the Flag Code of India about the rules regarding the matter clears us of all our doubts. According to the Section IV of the Flag Code of Conduct of 2002, under the sub-section 'Salute', taken from the official website of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
So, the compulsion is only 50% true. Only during a ceremony do we all are mandated to stand in attention, face the flag and salute as it passes us.

" During the ceremony of hoisting or lowering the Flag, or when the Flag is passing in a parade or in a review, all persons present should face the Flag and stand at attention. Those present in uniform should render the appropriate salute. When the flag is in a moving column, persons present will stand at attention or salute as the Flag passes them. A dignitary may take the salute without a headdress".
