The government provides them with nutritious food to facilitate the growth in the children's nutritional standards. there are many acts and laws surrounding the implementation and they have the legal backing to the scheme. But, there exist many instances where kids fall sick after consuming such a mid-day meal.
In a very recent incident in the City of Bangalore, Karnataka more than 20 kids fell sick after they had a mid-day meal at a government school. The kids reported having an extreme stomach ache and severe vomitings soon after they have consumed the food.
All the kids were rushed to a nearby hospital and are undergoing treatment. The incident took place at a Government School for Lower Primary Classes, in the place named Nimbekaipura near KR Puram in Karnataka. The incident happened on Monday afternoon around 1 pm post-lunch session.
According to the teacher present there, many of the students complained of a headache and 9 of them started to have vomitings within 20 minutes of consumption. The kids were affected by eating Puliyogare Rice and Rava Payasam, which were the suspect food for the sickness caused.
There is only one school teacher for the whole school and she took the help of locals to rush 25 students to the hospital. They were immediately attended to and they have been given proper medications as well. Soon by the end of the day, all the kids were discharged and were said to recover within a day.
The food that was supplied to the school came from the Akshaya Patra Foundation which supplies food to many government-aided schools feeding about 4.49 Lakh students. As usual the same was sent to all other schools but they did not report any sickness. The organisation gave their response regarding this matter.
"It has come to our knowledge that eight beneficiary children were taken ill after allegedly consuming mid-day meals provided by us. The meals served to this school were cooked at our centralized unit in Vasanthpura. All our centralized kitchens follow high standards of hygiene, food safety, and quality". The food samples were now sent for lab testing.
