We heard about several types of goods smuggling but this is all in all a different kind. A man is caught smuggling dead corpses, or dead bodies. Some were even skeletonised.
The official Government Railway Police (GRP) men on Tuesday had arrested a suspected corpse smuggler. The vigilance helped the officials to catch the potential suspect. They have recovered about 50 human skeletons at the Chapra railway station in Bihar’s Saran district.
The man who got arrested is identified as Sanjay Prasad who was travelling in Balia-Sealdah Express train with all those skeletons. GRP officials on an initial interrogation suspect that these skeletons were being brought from Balia in Uttar Pradesh. They were transported to be smuggled to China via Bhutan.
The police said, "Prasad was being interrogated and his mobile contacts were also being scanned". On further investigation, many things have come to light. GRP men also recovered Nepal and Bhutan currencies, several ATM cards, two varied identity cards and several SIM cards with Nepal mobile phone numbers. All acquired from his possession.
One of the recovered identity cards had an address of Paharpur in West Champaran, while the second card was issued from New Jalpaiguri in West Bengal, as per the statement by the DSP of the area. "The GRP will seek the remand of the arrested person when he is produced in a court on Wednesday".
"Seized amounts of foreign currency is a definite indication that the busted racket may have its wide tentacles spread to foreign countries", the officer further said. Back in the year 2009, Saran police had once seized more than 67 human skulls from a bus. The smuggler was arrested duly.
In another older incident dating back to April 2004, a whopping 1000 skulls and other parts of the human bodies were captured near Falgu river in Gaya. All this because there was a huge demand for skeletons among medical students another unnamed officer had said.
