A Seven-year-old girl named Hanifa Zaara of Ambur, a small town in Tamil Nadu has filed a Police Complaint against her father. The little girl was angry with her father and took to this step. Her mother kept on persuading her not to go to this extent, but the little girl was adamant. The reason being, a Toilet. Hanifa's father had promised her to build her a toilet at their house if she excels in studies, but he failed to fulfil them.
Hanifa was promised a toilet if she studies well, the promise being made two years ago. Not failing to succeed in her studies, she has been asking for a toilet ever since. She had recently completed her Half-yearly exams and was insisting to go to the Police Station.
Since Sunday the girl was very angry with her parents and stopped eating food. She sulked so bad that the very next day, even her mother was forced to accompany her to the Police Station. The girl even brought with her, her certificates and medals she has earned.
The mother's counter-persuasion, "I tried to explain her our financial position and how her father is currently unemployed. But nothing could dissuade her. She had stopped eating since Sunday night, so I had to go with her". The girl brought with herself 20 medals and certificates.
The mother-daughter duo approached the All Woman's Police Station in Ambur to lodge a complaint against the father. The sub-inspecter in charge of the station, A Valarmathi, said to the TOI, "She explained her problems. I immediately contacted the sanitary officer and asked him to help the family build a toilet".
The officials called for Zaara's father from the Police Station, who arrived there tensed. The father's words, "I was quite scared when the lady officer called me to immediately report to the police station. I was puzzled when I saw my wife and daughter at the police station. The inspector then apprised me about the situation and asked me to convince Hanifa and take her home".
Apprising the officials of his financial condition he said he could not afford proper electricity at home, let alone a new toilet. Immediately the officials have made arrangements for constructing a new toilet for her. The father despite the class 2 girl's act says is proud of her for being bold and approaching the police in times of need.
