Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi has inaugurated India's Longest Rail-Road Bridge on December 25th, 2018. On the day of Atal Bihari Vajpayee's Birth Anniversary. This bridge is constructed over the River Brahmaputra near Dibrugarh In Assam. At the inauguration ceremony, PM Modi Ji has highlighted the strategic importance the Bridge holds to the nation's defence. Costing Rs 5,000 Crore, with a length of 4.94 km, this bridge was finally completed.
After the PM has flagged the go for the first train run on the rail track, he said these at a following public gathering. "Things have changed after May 2014 when topmost priority is being accorded to key projects. Delayed infra projects were adversely impacting India's development trajectory. When we assumed office, we added speed to these projects and worked towards their quick completion".
The supply of troops and essentials to the bordered forces at the Arunachal Pradesh and China border will now become easy and more time-saving. "The bridge will enhance the national security of the eastern region by facilitating the swift movement of Defence forces and their equipment. It was constructed in such a way that even a jet fighter can land on it in case of an emergency".

Shortening the travel time and length of the road by several hundreds of kilometres this bridge is a huge bonus to Defence tactical transportation. Mocking the earlier government for delaying its construction, Modi Ji has said, "Completion of projects within a time frame is no longer confined to paper but has become a truth in a real sense".
China, on the other hand, has been constructing roads along the 4,000km border with India, for their own betterment. That extent of massive infrastructure development by the neighbouring country has inspired India to take up such measures.
Other details of the Bridge as given by PM, "The Bogibel Bridge is a lifeline for the people of Assam. It has enhanced connectivity between Assam and other parts of the nation. This is the country's longest railroad bridge. The first ever bridge completely out of steel".
"...will help the patients in North East with improved connectivity, and faster transportation". The Prime Minister has signalled off the Tinsukia-Naharlagun Intercity Express over the tracks. Running for five days a week, this track cuts down travel time by more than 10 hours.
Ex-PM HD Deva Gowda has laid the foundation stone to the bridge in the year 1997 since then it was left on papers. Work commenced in 2002 under PM Atal Ji, declared as a National Project by Congress-led government, is up for a run in 2018.
