Indian Army who felt responsible to our country besides the border security has taken up a drive to clean the beautiful Dal Lake. On knowing this, the Srinagar Mayor who was recently appointed tweeted that it was not their job of cleaning the lakes. Civilian and civil government related works must not be taken up by the army equipped with their heavy military vehicles, says the Mayor.
The winter in India has most of its effect in the Northern part of India. The valley of Srinagar was snow struck and the water bodies froze to ice, due to the near-zero temperatures. The army personnel got on to their heavy equipment and machinery, shoving the frozen lake to water and started cleaning the Dal Lake.
Junaid Mattu, Srinagar Mayor, boldly and openly claimed, "It's not their job to venture into civil government's domain". This was taken to Twitter through his account, where he tweeted, "Dumping tons of weeds on the boulevard road, is not what the city needs".
In a series of tweets he humbly says, "With all due respect to the Army, I don't think the Army needs to venture into civil governance domains. Not the job of the Army. Taking peripheral weeds out with a backhoe loader parked on the pavement and dumping tons of weeds on the boulevard road isn't what we need".
The army themselves have taken up this measure of cleaning the lake after decades of it being untouched. The 21-day operation fixed by the Army aims at making the ever picturesque lake to be made free of weed and moss. Military veterans were appreciating the act taken up.
Lt Gen Raj Kadyan says, "Army has always contributed to the welfare of Kashmiris, even during the floods. The army is a national resource and has always helped in issues of public interests. The solution of Kashmiris lies with Kashmiris".
Rafi Ahmed Mir of the PDP says, " The work by the Army has to be appreciated. Dal is not anybody's personal property. They have the manpower, the resource and the will to do it. When they do something which is good for the country, it needs to be appreciated".
