In this fast-paced and always stressed life, we youngsters have been accustomed to it. What once were rare illnesses and mental disorders are now a common tag for most of the youth. Unlike our seniors who did not encounter such a scenario in their entire lives, are not able to cope up. We often find them confused and left out in the digital media life. But, our governmental organisations have many of its employees working for decades. Railways have now come up with a solution for them.
Railways have earlier introduced Artificial Intelligence in its system. This introduction was aimed at studying and reducing accidents due to Signal-fail. After which, the Indian Railways have now introduced, Emotional Intelligence Training to its high-level senior officials.
Emotional Intelligence is the level of capability a person has to perceive and understand one's own emotions as well as of others. The ability to study them, recognise them and label them appropriately. This helps us to conceive a behavioural pattern of an individual, their thinking methods and emotional status.
Why was this training needed for the senior officials of Indian Railways? The innate suffering the Railways faces is of Indecisiveness. Especially at the higher levels of the organisation. This has happened due to many reasons all varied from each other. The reasons are very well known, what they wanted was a solution to the problem, before it worsens.
Stress and lack of empathy amongst them are posing a serious block to the time requirements and decisions. A senior Railway Ministry Official was reported saying, "There have been circumstances where officers were not been able to sustain pressure in demanding situations, which impacted decisions".
The typical word that is tied up with Emotional Intelligence is Empathy. The basic aspect of the training is to empathise to study the individual. Only by putting ourselves in someone else's shoes we would know how they are feeling. Studies have shown that people with high EI Quotient are mentally healthier, perform well and are better at leadership skills.
As the IQ and EQ have no relationship traits showing, any level of a person can be Emotionally Intelligent. Official's varied mindsets are now going to be shaped by a globally certified master trainer. The course module used here is developed by Canada's Multi-Health Systems which is based on various models and involves case studies.
