Do you fancy having custom made vehicle registration numbers and designer plates? But, stuck with a white plate with clear block letters on it. Then our Government's Ministry of Road Transport and Highways made an amendment. We would not be getting any designer plates but a high-tech induced High-Security Plates will be made available. They are compulsory.

The latest necessary amendment to the 'Central Motor Vehicles Rules' of 1989, has made it mandatory to equip our vehicles with these specially made High-Security Registration Plates. The features and facilities they hold are very interesting. Vehicles bought after April 2019 will be compulsorily fit with these plates, made available by the respective dealers.

Due to the rise in Vehicle theft and stolen vehicles becoming hard to trace the Ministry has come up with this new technology to track the vehicles using specially encoded information. The vehicles prior to April 2019, can also avail the facility by opting for an up-gradation. This up-gradation would only cost below Rs 100 for two-wheelers and Below Rs 300 for Four-wheelers.

The significant high-tech features of the plate are:

• A chromium-based hologram will be hot-stamped on the top-left corner of both front and rear HSRPs


• The stamp will be of Ashoka Chakra in Blue


• A 10-Digit PIN (Permanent Identification Number) will be laser-branded into the bottom-left corner


• Letters inscribing INDIA will be filmed with hot-stamping


• The numbers will also be hoy-stamped and embossed on the plate


• Snap locks on both the front and rear plates will be equipped to make it hard to steal or meddle with


• In addition, A 'Third Registration Plate' stuck on the left corner of the inside of the front windshield


• This third one consists of registration number, the registering authority, a laser-branded PIN, and engine and chassis numbers


• The above all come with a 15-year guarantee, with replacement and repairs for natural damages by the issuing dealer.

Tracking a lost vehicle will be easier with these new features put into use. Utilising the security features by the citizens will help be more responsible and receptive to the Government's Trials for better functioning.
