Cow vigilante is turning cruel to humans. Many cow smuggling suspicions are rising and the ones who are responsible for protecting the cows are also punishing the suspicious ones without formal proofs and investigation. Taking the incident to the police did not do much help. A 24-year-old was thrashed, beaten and tied to a pole on suspicion of cow smuggling.
Haryana's Rohtak village has witnessed this incident. A man named Naushad Muhammad was on his way to a local market to sell buffaloes. He was stopped by a few men, who claim to be 'Gau Rakshaks' or 'Cow Vigilantes'. All these so-called vigilantes are self-proclaimed.
Talking about the incident Naushad himself says, "It was around 8 pm. We had reached Rohtak's Bhalout village when I was waylaid by one Jashpal Gumana, who had chased me his scooter". Gumana then shouted "Cow Smuggler" and a group of men armed with sticks soon gathered there.
All of these men dragged Naushad to a pole, tied him up and started beating. "Before I could understand what was going on, I was bleeding from the nose, ear, legs, and back. One of the cow activists tortured me by burning a beedi on my skin and branding me a 'cow smuggler',", says the injured victim.
Police arrived at the place after two long hours, took Naushad into custody, tied him to a bed and denied any medical attention. A day after the victim was arrested, the activists came to know the situation and they came to the rescue of the victim.
The activists in the Rohtak village took him to a nearby hospital, as he was laying half-unconscious in the Police Station. Police have filed relevant cases on the men who attacked. They have also filed cases against Naushad and his two aides regarding 'cruelty to animals'.
A dairy Owner at a nearby place under whom Naushad and the other two were working has clarified that they were his animals. And they were not cows, but buffaloes. A buffalo and two calves. It was under his instruction, that Naushad had left to sell these buffaloes at a local Cattle fair.
The owner also informed about the CCTV footage available at the Haryana-Uttar Pradesh border which would clearly show that they were in fact buffaloes and not cows. It was at this border that Naushad's vehicle got thoroughly scanned. SIT Probe ordered.
