Smartphones are equipped to do many things for us. They have the ability to save us from an emergency through an SOS Call or push us into an emergency by getting stuck in need or making us more engaged in it. One thing that these smartphones nowadays are best featuring is their camera and display pixels. What if these camera eyes or the smartphone itself can detect or sense some diseases?



Scientists of the world are always on to these devices to make them more than what they are actually made for. The means to tap the untapped potential is being researched upon so much. This, in turn, making the smartphones do what even we did not imagine they would do.

A New Algorithm has been developed by the Scientists which would Image the analytics and enable disease detection. The assays which are typically detected and imaged by a Spectroscopy are being used here by a device in our hands, fitting in our pockets.



Spectroscopy equipment is one of the most advanced, highly sophisticated and very powerful detection device used in medical treatments and operations. The researchers from Florida Atlantic University in the United Nations, have come up with this new algorithm.

The simple smartphone in the hands of the untrained can also be very helpful to both the untrained who are in need of help. and also the medical professional who can in return use this information of medical case for research study purposes.

The cameras in smartphones are already put to use in the field of Microscopy and Cytometric analysis. An assistant at the FAU says, " Smartphone cameras are optimised for image appearance rather than for quantitative image-based measurements, and they can not be bypassed or reversed easily. Furthermore, most lab-based biological and biochemical assays still lack a robust and repeatable cell phone analogue".  

Furthermore, he adds saying, " We have been able to develop a cell phone-based image preprocessing method that produces a mean pixel intensity with smaller variances, lower limits-of-detection, and a higher dynamic range than existing methods".  

Updating the existing RGB Tests the researchers have applied this to the ELIZA test for HIV they have discovered an Equipment-less detection.
