Senior BJP leader & India's Former finance minister Arun Jaitley passed away today at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) New Delhi. He was 66 years old.
Media & Protocol Division AIIMS , Delhi has confirmed his death news with a press release at 12:15 PM (IST) Stating as follows :
Arun Jaitley first became a Cabinet minister in the government of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 2000. He then also went on to serve as the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha from June 2009. Arun Jaitley previously held the cabinet portfolios of Finance, Defence, Corporate Affairs, Commerce and Industry and Law and Justice in the Vajpayee government and Narendra Modi government. He was a Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court of India. Arun Jaitley decided not to join the Modi Cabinet in 2019 due to health issues.
He was appointed the finance minister in the first term of Modi government in 2014. He opted out of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and left the Modi Cabinet due to Health Issues.
India's Home Minister Amit Shah said he is Deeply pained by the demise of ArunJaitley. It is like a personal loss for me. I have not only lost a senior party leader but also an important family member who will forever be a guiding light for me.

" It is with profound grief that we inform about the sad demise of Shri Arun Jaitley, Hon'ble Member of Parliament & Former Finance Minister, Government of India at 12:07 pm on 24th August, 2019.Arun Jaitley was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) earlier in this month of August since he is complaining frequently about restlessness. He was placed under observation at the AIIMS Cardio-Neuro-Centre and was treated by Senior Doctors of the Hospital. India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with his party senior members throughout last week has been visiting Arun Jaitely in the hospital. Several Other Leaders from Congress and opposition party leaders visited him in the hospital Jaitley who was kept on life-support last week after his health continued to deteriorate even further.
